Slow down, look, taste

48 hours in Trabzon

Two days offer a balanced first encounter with the historic coastal city, Altındere’s deep valley, Sümela’s cliff architecture and Hamsiköy’s table.

01

Day one

City, history and coast

Begin with a local breakfast

Ease into the day in the centre with kuymak, fresh bread, butter and tea.

Walk the traces of Ortahisar

Discover the historic core, the area around the walls and layers of city memory within short distances.

Hagia Sophia and the coast

After studying the stonework, spend time along the shoreline opening toward the Black Sea.

From Meydan to Boztepe

Watch the city centre’s daily rhythm; if weather allows, close the afternoon from above.

A Trabzon table

End the first day with Akçaabat meatballs, pide or seasonal anchovy at a local table.

02

Day two

Valley, Sümela and Hamsiköy

Set out toward Maçka

Check weather and roads, then leave early for Altındere Valley.

Explore Sümela slowly

Give yourself time to read the architecture in the cliff and the scale of the valley together.

Breathe in Altındere

Experience forest, water and high rock walls on a short walk suited to current conditions.

Pause in Hamsiköy

Meet one of the route’s warmest moments over rice pudding and tea in the mountain village atmosphere.

Return to the city

Close with a short seaside walk or an unhurried dinner in the centre.

UZUNGÖL / EAST

If you have one more day: Uzungöl

Uzungöl deserves a full day to the east of Trabzon. Rather than compressing it into a crowded 48 hours, plan Çaykara and its surroundings as a slower third-day route.

BEFORE YOU GO

Before you set out

Airport

According to DHMİ, Trabzon Airport is about 7 km from the city centre, with HAVAŞ, municipal bus, minibus, taxi and car-rental options.

Changeable weather

Rain and mist are part of the city’s character. Carry layers, a rain shell and comfortable walking shoes.

Current conditions

Opening hours and road access for museums, monasteries and natural sites can change; check official sources the same day.

This is a suggested route; remain flexible around current weather, roads and site access.
